Steef Crombach, who taught artists in preparation for the exhibition EXPEDITION BATIKBACK at Co-Lab Projects, will lead students in learning her variation on the Indonesian batik method of wax-guarded dyeing. This fully saturated fabric dyeing process allows the artist’s compositions to become threedimensional objects, viewable from front and back. When suspended from the ceiling, they create a structure for visitors to navigate. Nontraditional themes, pop elements, patterns, and colors contrast with the traditional use of Batik to shed new light on an ancient technique.
